Learning Activities (Indicate where / when iPad is used):
A. Make predictions of new vocabulary words on paper with colored pen or felt tip marker
B. Use iPad to look up new words and write down definitions in their own words (use it in a written sentence)
C. Write down a synonym for each vocabulary word
D. Include rhyming words (intro to poetry)
Evaluation: I will have the students create a 4 column chart and write the vocabulary words down the left side. I will read a sentence to the class and they will make a prediction of the definition through the context of the sentence. Student predictions will be in the first column in colored ink. The rest of the assignment will be done in pencil. The 2nd column will have the definition given from the app but put in their own words. The 3rd column will have 2 or more synonyms, and the 4th column will contain 2 or more rhyming words. Students will use each new vocabulary word in a sentence.
Students will be evaluated on how well they made predictions of the definitions of their words through the context of the sentence and their follow through in filling out the worksheet using their own words and completing the rhyming and synonym sections.
